Having worked with unemployed youths and taught at a further education college following my time as a post graduate student at Durham University, I became a solicitor. I did my training at Thompsons Solicitors in Newcastle before joining Philip Browell’s Personal Injury Department at Watson Burtons. I was a founding Partner with Philip Browell of Browell Smith and Co when we established the firm in 1995. I am now a senior partner at the firm and in charge of the Personal Injury, Employment and Welfare Benefit departments. I have my own caseload that includes high value and complex Personal Injury and Employment cases. I am especially interested in assisting trade unions with legal matters and have often engaged in parliamentary lobbying regarding legal issues on behalf of trade union clients.

Date Qualified: November 1985
Trained at Watson Burton and remained with the firm until 1995 having progressed to salaried partner. Moved with founding partners to establish Browell Smith and Co in 1995.
Hobbies and interests: Family, sport and travel. Taxi driver for two gorgeous children. Supported in everyway by marvelous wife. Member of Northumberland Golf Club. Continue to play 11 a side football in local leagues (over 40’s). Keen skier (allows me to enjoy all 3 hobbies/interests at the same time)

I commenced employment at Thompsons Solicitors as a newly qualified solicitor in 1988. Practiced Personal Injury and Criminal Law. 80% of my case load was a mix of accident and disease, fatal and multiple injury work. I became a salaried partner in Thompsons in 1992. I commenced employment with Browells in October 2001 as a senior solicitor in the Personal Injury Department, with a similar case load to that above. I became a salaried Partner in October 2002 and an Equity Partner from 1st July 2006.
Hobbies and interests: My family, politics, football (playing and watching when I have time), popular music, lapsed golfer and badminton player.
